DMI was established in 2011.  Since our certification as a Main Street America program, among our many accomplishments we have:

  • Created a special $100,000 revolving Micro Loan Program in collaboration with First Financial Bank for both new and existing downtown businesses.

  • Brought over 55,000 people downtown to attend 90-plus DMI-sponsored events.

  • Established the first Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) in the state of Ohio and Sunday liquor sales.

  • Helped to create a downtown Entertainment District resulting in a variety of eating and drinking options – with 13 bars and restaurants and counting!

  • Used many of our assets like Insurance, or acting as a fiscal agent to help other community organizations hold events in our Downtown.

  • Helped to secure the pedestrian walk lights installed at Central and Broad so downtown visitors can safely move between businesses.

  • In 2023 alone, DMI’s Board of Directors, staff and our army of volunteers have given over 4,084 hours of service, valued at more than $122,322 in support of Downtown.

In 2024, with your support we will continue to focus on 4 key areas of downtown preservation and revitalization:

  • Organization – Building consensus & cooperation among Middletown’s businesses and organizations.

  • Design – Preserving downtown’s history while enhancing its image and appearance.

  • Promotions – Marketing the unique characteristics of downtown to shoppers, investors, new businesses, tourists & others.

  • Economic development – Strengthening the existing economic base while diversifying through new business opportunities.
